The French Alps, Chamonix

We left early Saturday morning for our three week vacation in the French Alps. We flew to Geneva, rented a car and got good instructions how to get to the French side and avoid Swiss highway fares. First stop, Chamonix. We booked our stay through Airbnb and got a nice little apartment right in the center of Chamonix with views to Mt. Blanc on one side and Le Brévent on the other.
We spent some time getting to know the town and familiarizing ourselves with the lift system and when and where it was ok to take our bikes for the first ride.

We went for Le Tour first. A 20 minute drive from Chamonix. Great trails, amazing views and just the perfect opening round for this trip. We topped the day with the best cheesy toast we have ever tasted and some local beer.

On Monday we woke up early to clear blues skies. Perfect weather, since we had planned to get to Aguille du Midi. At 8 am there were no queues. The cable car takes you straight up to 3842 meters above sea level. The 360 degree views are breathtaking. We spent a better part of two hours taking pictures and experienced a brief moment of altitude sickness, or dizziness after running up some stairs.
We got down with the cable car, walked to the other side of the valley and took a trip up to Le Brévent for more great views and pictures. We wanted to try to ride down Le Brévent and decided to go get our bikes. The ride was rocky and steep at first but the singletrack in the woods was great fun!

The day ended with great burgers and beers at Pocoloco burger. We sure could spent many more days exploring the Chamonix valley, but Les 2 Alpes and the Mountain of hell race awaits us.
