Final Route

This is our final route. Going by train, boat and bus we crossed over 16500 km or 10.000 miles.

Going Home

Hong Kong to Qatar to Oslo. 16 hours, lots of sleep.

Hong Kong - Last days

The fourth day we took a day trip to Lantau Island to check out the Big Buddha sitting facing Beijing and the small fishing village of Tai O. The slow pace of the village and the traditional Chinese lunch we had made us feel a world away from the busy city centre.

We have spent six days in Hong Kong and we leave wanting more. These last days we have been exploring Central and Kowloon districts, leaving a lot of Hong Kong for us to discover for some other time.

Hong Kong - Day 2

We spent the day exploring the northern part of Hong Kong Island. There is so much to see as you walk along the roller coaster like streets and elevated walkways. Every new street corner reviles a different view of the skyscrapers, and the streets are filled with shops, restaurants and advertisement rising many stories from the ground. After walking around the more traditional district of Sheung Wan, we took a tram across to the eastern side to Victoria park. In the evening we took the Peak tram up to Victoria Peak for the awesome view over the city.

Hong Kong!

We left Yangshou late Sunday evening, taking the sleeper bus to Hong Kong. We booked a hotel in advance, and were looking forward to leaving the backpacker lifestyle behind us for now. We spent the first day walking around the busy streets of Kowloon and Central, before taking the world`s longest escalator up to our hotel in the Mid levels. First impression of the Hong Kong has been amazing and we can´t wait to get to know it better!

My Camera Died Today

So my Pentax K-x died today. After following me across the United States, all over Europe, northern India, Russia, Mongolia and a large part of China it finally became to much for the poor thing. It was very emotional when I turned it on and nothing happened. I took it to a local camera repair shop but they could do nothing. We are going to try and get it fixed at an official Pentax repair shop when we arrive in Hong Kong on Monday. Until then there will not be many more pictures posted here. I will leave you, for now, with one of the last pictures I took with my camera. I think it shows something important that we all should keep in mind. Smile! Keep your head up, stay strong and you can accomplish anything :)

Yangshou

After spending Monday travelling, we found out that the best way to get to Guilin would be by sleeper bus. Once in Guilin early Tuesday morning we fetched a cab to Yangshou, our last destination before Hong Kong. Yangshou is a small town, at least the pedestrian touristy part of it. Surrounded by tall mountain peaks and Li River, this place had both charm, beautiful scenery and a pleasant level of comfort. Although Chinese food has been delicious, we didn´t mind the pizza parlors and vanilla iced lattes. We planned to stay here for a week, so that we could relax, and have time to discover Yangshou and it´s surroundings.

The days have been spent walking around, eating great food, shopping and so on. It was nice to take things easy knowing that we had time to do the things we wanted without hassle. We´ve cycled around, made a couple of day trips to Yulong River and cooled off swimming by a small waterfall. Also, we took a day trip to Li Jiang river for rafting. It was the first time for both of us, and what a thrilling ride!  All in all, Yangshou is a great place to visit, as it offers jaw dropping scenery and a lot of fun things to do.

Fenghuang - Day 2

This town is perfect for lazy days. Since we were pretty beat we decided to take it easy and spend the day strolling down the streets, just watching the everyday life of the locals. With so many things to see, and enourmos amounts of impressions the evening snuck up on us and before we knew it, our last day in Fenghuang was over. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow, we have to take an early night.
